Medical Drug & Alcohol Detoxification Program in Texarkana, AR

Medical detox at Riverview Behavioral Health Hospital in Texarkana, AR, can be an essential first step for adults who are struggling with substance abuse and chemical dependency.

Who Can Benefit from Detox?

Our medical detox program accepts adult men and women, ages 18 and older. We assess each person to ensure that they are properly diagnosed and medically stable prior to entering the program.

We most commonly treat men and women who have been struggling with addictions to alcohol, benzodiazepines, meth, and opiates. However, we also help individuals who have been dealing with other forms of addiction as well.

If you have any questions about whether or not detox is right for you, please contact us at your convenience. Admissions decisions for our detox program occur after an evaluation of each person’s specific needs.

Most clients complete detox in five to seven days.

What Happens During Detox?

Our medical detox program helps men and women complete the withdrawal process with maximum safety and minimal discomfort. Depending upon your needs, you may benefit from both medical and therapeutic support during your time in the detox program.

Physicians, psychologists, nurses, and nurse practitioners provide the medical services in our detox program. In addition to monitoring your health throughout detox, these professionals may also administer prescription medications to ease withdrawal symptoms.

We may prescribe Suboxone for adults who participate in detox for opiate addiction.

We make all medication decisions on a case-by-case basis. You will consult with the prescribing physician prior to receiving any medications during your time in detox.

Is Therapy Part of Detox?

Yes, therapy is an important part of our detox program. Licensed drug and alcohol counselors and other professionals can provide you with therapeutic support to manage discomfort and prepare for the next phases of your recovery.

We offer two types of group therapy for detox clients:

  • Educational groups focus on issues such as relapse prevention, the disease concept of addiction, family issues, and issues related to the 12-Step Recovery Model. We also host special groups for clients who are receiving medication management services.
  • Process groups help you address feelings of anger, grief, shame, and guilt related to your addiction.

You can also schedule individual and family therapy sessions on an as-needed basis while you are completing detox.

What Are the Long-Term Advantages of Detox?

By the time you complete detox, you will have a detailed document to guide your continued progress. This plan may include referrals to residential care, partial hospitalization programming, intensive outpatient programming, psychiatric follow-ups, or other recommendations.
